Chamberlain Ballet creates with Bruce Wood Dance

Concept:

Professional dancers with Bruce Wood Dance Company mentor/guide Chamberlain Ballet company members through choreographing solo/duet/small ensemble short works (1-2 minutes in length, pop-up to street/freestyle influenced). Mentors will help guide the student choreographers through development of theme, dynamics, tone, messaging, style and execution.

Mentors/dancers will meet/workshop two or three times before performing (2-3 hours each meeting) with virtual check-ins as needed. The initial meeting will “get the ball rolling” to establish the direction for the work being created and establish goals for second workshop/meeting (including having majority of dance choreographed). The final meeting/workshop will be to finish process/prepare for performance.

Reason:

COVID-19 has caused an impact across many lives. With a change in available performance venues and accessibility, a shift to a digital presentation is necessary. It is incredibly important for students of dance to learn to properly and constructively express themselves in creating new works. They need an audience, because the art of dance is to be performed. We are expecting our student choreographers to “create their own dance” and become dancemakers themselves.

Final works to be performed:

Short contemporary themed solos/duets/small ensembles choreographed and performed by company members for themselves and other company members.
